BAM Infrastructure are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a skilled Estimator to join our Rail team. You will be working within our pre-construction team, on bids and supporting our early contractor involvement (ECI) projects on a variety of competitive tenders, negotiated works, and call-off contracts. This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven professional to play a pivotal role in securing new projects and programs of work, ensuring we deliver value and add best-in-class preconstruction and early contractor involvement.
The role will be based in any of our UK Rail Offices (York, Sevenoaks or Bristol), but we operate a hybrid working model, allowing you to mix working from home or from the office, together with visits to our project sites, client offices, and our design partners\’ offices.
Your mission
- Prepare properly considered cost estimates for tenders and projects.
- Understanding and contributing to work winning and the governance process and understanding the BAM Baseline.
- Working responsibly with commercially sensitive pre-tender and tender information.
- Working collaboratively with the bid team and the wider Pre-Construction team, and in particular with Senior Estimating staff, tender Planning Engineers, and the Bid Manager.
- Understanding the scope of a project, including review of 3D model and 2D digital drawing information and extracting information including specification details and quantities.
- Preparing and issuing supply chain enquiries and amendments in accordance with the tender procurement strategy and the Procurement Plan and evaluating and adjudicating quotations.
- Preparing the estimate using proprietary Estimating software including calculations, schedules, reports, and tender summaries.
- Identifying and evaluating risks and opportunities and developing a priced Risk and Opportunity Management Register.
- Presenting, and finalising the estimate and preparing tender submission information.
- Preparing post-tender clarification responses and contributing to post-tender negotiations.
- Preparing and presenting the handover of estimating information to project teams including feedback requests.
- Collecting, processing, and sharing cost benchmarking and feedback information.
- Maintaining awareness of latest construction materials, equipment, and techniques.
- Supporting and guiding Estimating Assistants and Associate Estimators.
- Carrying out other relevant duties as required from time to time.
Who are we looking for?
- Degree, HND in Civil Engineering or NVQ equivalent level.
- Suitable civil engineering site experience with understanding of methods and typical production rates/outputs.
- Awareness of common forms of contract.
