Building a sustainable tomorrow We are recruiting a Commercial Director, to be based in the Northern Region to work hybrid from any of our Northern offices. Reporting to the Regional Director, the Commercial Director will hold overall responsibility for all commercial matters within the Northern region. Your mission Responsibility, as a discipline head / operational manager for all pre and post contract commercial related disciplines involving surveying, buying, and estimating. Ensuring that the region and all projects comply with BAM commercial best practice/business management systems Representing the region on national commercial forums, notably the Commercial Directors forum, and for ensuring the region is represented on all national commercial working groups. Preparing the commercial section of the Operational Plan, inputting into the regional strategy and presenting it to the Board in conjunction with the Regional Director. Joint responsibility for monitoring the region’s performance against the Operational Plan and its delivery. Responsible for obtaining and checking MFR reports from all projects and inputting results into the SAP monthly report. Briefing the RD on any commercial issues arising from the MFRs Updating the regional spend v budget on CTC on a quarterly basis and briefing the RD on any issues arising or overspending/under-recovery. Briefing the Senior Management Team on any commercial issues that arise on a monthly basis from group or the projects. All cost data used by the region is up to date, and updating as required Preparation of the Quarterly Forecast reports for the region including holding QF review meetings for every project, the SAP inputs, completing the staff model and CTC reporting. Preparation and/or input of interim regional reports including ‘stewardship’ of the regional monthly board report Management of cost forecasts and budgetary information. Assisting in the settlement of tenders. Overall responsibility for monitoring outstanding retentions, unsecured value and cash flow, ensuring that payments are made and received on time Producing a commercial tender strategy and proposal for the settlement of tenders for agreement by the Regional Director. Joint responsibility with other stakeholders for the management of projects in the Royal BAM Group Stage Gate system and overall responsibility for ensuring projects have the correct approvals in place at each stage. The adoption and monitoring of UPA commercial processes in the Region. Proactively support and maintain the approach of Services Engineering within the region Required to maintain strong personal ties to the Western supply chain to be able resolve any issues that arise without recourse to external experts or third part adjudication. Trouble shooting problem Projects and Sub-Contractor claims and, in consultation with the RD, engaging and managing dispute resolution experts as required. Develop and maintain relationships with external clients and consultants and attending functions to promote BAM externally as required. Supporting and actively encouraging full compliance with the company’s Health and Safety and environmental obligations Provide leadership in the development and training of all commercial staff Identify and manage commercial staff requirements Lead, manage and ensure P&D process for all Commercial Staff Liaise with the Legal department and ensure compliance with BAM’s baseline requirements Advise and lead as necessary any legal Contractual issues that may arise from time to time in the Region Liaise with the Insurance department and ensure all project comply with BAM policies Work closely with BAM’s finance department, not only in terms of financial reporting but all other aspects of the commercial function that interface with the finance department Be willing to engage in business innovation and transformation this involve leading or contributing to working groups that may be established from time to time. Professional qualification to MRICS level or equivalent • Expert commercial acumen and problem solving skills • Good knowledge of the local market • Excellent client facing and supply chain facing skills • Experience of managing teams • A high degree of energy and self-motivation • A respected role model for both the commercial team and wider region • Enthusiasm and ability to inspire and motivate people • Excellent relationship building and communication skills, capable of consulting and collaborating with key players and departments at all levels within the business • Ability to multi-task and provide focus, direction and solutions where required • High level of IT systems awareness to be able to operate SAP, Stage Gate, SharePoint and all bespoke reporting applications.
