Balyasny is in a period of rapid technology transition. This exciting role within our Production Engineering team will provide you with the opportunity to partner with our Equity investment teams. The role will interact heavily with all functions from front to back including Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Analysts, to proactively discover and understand issues and workflow/system improvements. This exciting role will additionally provide you with the opportunity to ensure the reliability, performance, and resilience of our equity trading and business-critical systems.
The candidate must have a proven understanding of Equity business, trade lifecycle and associated front to back systems. At BAM, you will have the chance to work with some of the smartest and most driven individuals in the industry.
As an Equity Production Engineer at BAM, you will:
- Support Equities investment staff who leverage a full stack of applications, including Trading, Position, PnL, Risk, Reporting, Research, and compliance systems.
- Enhance, support, and maintain the firm’s Equity front, middle and back-office systems.
- Work as a part of the global Production Engineering team.
- Proactively engage with PMs, Traders, and Analysts to resolve issues and identify improvement opportunities.
- Deliver technical solutions to automate, streamline and integrate using Python, PowerShell & SQL.
- Document common support issues, trade flows and procedures on Confluence.
- Employ AI based solutions to improve upon operational efficiency.
- Work with external vendors to resolve issues and deliver strategic enhancements.
- Provide escalation support for other regions, including evenings and weekends, on rotation.
- Face off to the business in-person 4+ days a week.
- Proactively monitor and maintain the health, capacity, and performance of trading and business-critical systems, addressing bottlenecks and risks.
- Respond to and resolve production incidents, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, escalation, and post-incident reviews to minimize downtime and drive continuous improvement.

To be considered a good technical fit, you must have:
- 3-5+ years of experience supporting an Equities investment/trading desk within investment banks, hedge funds, asset managers or associated software vendors.
- A thorough understanding of Equity products e.g. Cash Equities, Futures, Options. Must be able to discuss details with Portfolio Managers, Traders, Analysts, Operations and Risk Managers.
- Experience supporting Production environments within an ITIL framework and Development environments using agile methodologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and creative problem-solving abilities, including being able to interpret, understand and troubleshoot internally developed systems.
- Experience scripting tools in Python and/or PowerShell for support purposes.
- SQL experience across various database implementations, including MSSQL.
- Proficient with AI and LLMs such as ChatGPT to boost efficiency/productivity.
- Experience supporting OMS/EMS equity platforms such as FlexTrade, Virtu Triton, SpiderRock.
- Experience in supporting applications hosted on Windows, Linux, Cloud (Kubernetes, AWS).
- Knowledge of Messaging platforms – Solace, Kafka, RabbitMQ.
- Experience with FIX messaging, trade lifecycle, exception management.
- Experience troubleshooting market and static data related issues that impact trade flow.
- Familiarity with enterprise scheduling tools such as Active Batch, Airflow, Control-M, AutoSys.
- Experience using/building monitoring on platforms like ITRS Geneos, Zabbix.
