Balyasny Asset Management is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Commodities technology team. This individual will work closely with portfolio managers, traders, and technology partners to build and support the platforms that power risk, P&L, and trading workflows across the commodities business. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on delivering reliable, scalable, and practical solutions in a fast-moving front‑office environment. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with a collaborative mindset and an interest in solving real‑world business problems.
What You’ll Do
- Build and enhance platforms, tools, and data workflows that support commodities risk, P&L, and trading;
- Develop user‑focused applications and services for portfolio managers and traders;
- Partner directly with business users to understand workflows and deliver effective technical solutions;
- Maintain and improve proprietary trading platforms, with a focus on reliability, performance, and operational stability;
- Troubleshoot production issues and participate in support/on‑call rotations;
- Automate manual processes and improve operational efficiency across the technology stack;
- Integrate with internal platforms and shared services across BAM;
- Document systems, workflows, and support procedures.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in a trading, risk, or front‑office environment;
- Strong Python skills and experience working with data‑centric applications;
- Experience building and supporting production‑grade risk & PnL platforms;
- Depth of experience in risk, P&L, valuation, and market data;
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and the software development lifecycle;
- Ability to work closely with technical and non‑technical stakeholders;
- Strong communication, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills;
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Nice to Have
- Experience in commodities or energy markets;
- Experience with time‑series data and financial datasets;
- Experience with Rust, C++, or other performance‑oriented languages;
- Knowledge of EU and US gas and power, oil, and physical commodities.
