Join to apply for the Portfolio Manager Onboarding Analyst role at Balyasny Asset Management L.P. Balyasny Asset Management is seeking a highly skilled Senior Implementation Engineer to drive our Portfolio Manager (PM) and Analyst Technology Onboarding function. Reporting to the Onboarding Lead, you will:

  • Execute the end-to-end technical onboarding for new investment teams, serving as the primary technical contact for the team as a hands‑on engineer.
  • Act as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME), translating complex PM investment strategy requirements into concrete technical configurations on the BAM Technology Platform.
  • Deeply integrate with business lines, ensuring that research, data, and trading implementations are optimized for specific asset classes and strategies.

This high‑impact role offers broad visibility across investing, engineering, and data teams, and is ideal for a technologist who thrives at the intersection of hands‑on coding, solution architecture, and direct front‑office enablement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • BUSINESS ANALYSIS & PM ENABLEMENT
  • Requirements Engineering: Partner directly with PMs and Analysts to dissect their investment process; translate general trading requirements into precise technical specifications (e.g., compute requirements, library dependencies, data latency needs).
  • Training & Adoption: Deliver high‑touch, technical training to quantitative and discretionary users; create code samples (Jupyter notebooks), documentation, and runbooks to drive platform adoption.
  • Hands‑on Engineering: Provision and configure complex research, data, and trading environments using Python, SQL, AWS, Airflow, and GitHub.
  • Feedback Loop: Act as the "voice of the customer" back to core engineering teams, identifying platform gaps and testing new features before they reach the investment teams.
  • PROJECT DELIVERY & COORDINATION
    • Onboarding Execution: Manage the technical delivery for assigned investment teams from intake to go‑live, ensuring all technical milestones are met on schedule.
    • Cross‑Functional Orchestration: Coordinate technically complex requests across specialized engineering pods (e.g., High Performance Computing, Market Data, Security) and track them to closure.
    • Operational Rigor: Maintain accurate status updates and technical documentation for all assigned projects, escalating blockers to leadership proactively.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 5+ years in hedge‑fund, prop‑trading, fintech, or quantitative developer roles.
    • Strong technical command of the core technology stack driving a modern hedge fund: including proficiency in Python and SQL, Cloud/Infrastructure (AWS, Linux, Compute Farms), and SDLC processes (CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes).
    • Experience with critical industry applications (e.g., Airflow/Orchestration, Research Platforms, PMS/Risk systems) is highly preferred.
    • Deep Business Domain Knowledge: Nuanced understanding of Front Office investment workflows. Must be conversant in financial instruments (Equities, Macro, Fixed Income, and/or Commodities) and the specific data/analytics needs associated with them.
    • Exceptional Communication: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and discuss sophisticated trading strategies with engineers.
    • Resourceful Owner Mindset: Thrives in fast‑moving, ambiguity‑rich environments with a focus on solving problems independently.
