Our Database Engineering team is transforming how Balyasny Asset Management delivers database services through a standardized platform providing declarative, code‑defined provisioning, automated lifecycle management, and self‑healing operations across multiple database technologies.
We are seeking a Database Platform Engineer to help design, build, and operate our Kubernetes‑based Database‑as‑a‑Service platform, creating scalable, automated solutions that minimize manual intervention while enforcing safety and consistency.
Key Responsibilities- Design and operate database workloads on Kubernetes, developing operators and custom resources for automated provisioning and lifecycle management.
- Implement high‑availability solutions and declarative management for multiple database technologies including PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Snowflake, ClickHouse, and Redis.
- Build data lakehouse solutions (Apache Iceberg) and implement query federation capabilities (Trino).
- Manage database schemas declaratively using tools like Flyway, Liquibase, or Atlas.
- Develop GitOps workflows and Kubernetes‑native observability for comprehensive monitoring.
- Create migration tools for transitioning from VMs and AWS managed services to our platform.
- Build self‑service interfaces and implement security controls within Kubernetes environments.
- Strong experience with multiple database technologies (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Snowflake, ClickHouse, Redis, etc.).
- Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes concepts (pods, deployments, statefulsets, operators).
- Experience with declarative management using infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
- Proficiency in programming (Python, Go preferred) with GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Kubernetes‑native monitoring and observability tools.
- Experience operating stateful applications in Kubernetes production environments.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes operators development and database‑specific operators.
- Experience with Snowflake administration, SQL Server automation, and schema migration tools.
- Knowledge of data lakehouse technologies, Trino/Presto, and data replication solutions.
- Experience with analytical databases like ClickHouse and key‑value stores like Redis.
