Are you ready to take the lead on a £25m capital programme and shape how a borough moves, connects, and grows? As Transport & Major Works Manager, you will report into the Head of Highways, Parking & Transport and lead a team of 7, driving forward critical infrastructure, transport strategy, and public safety initiatives. This is your opportunity to influence major transport schemes, champion sustainable travel, and deliver meaningful improvements for residents at scale.
You will take ownership of a diverse and high‑impact portfolio: transport strategies, major works delivery, traffic signals, structures, and public transport partnerships. The role puts you at the centre of decision‑making, balancing operational excellence with long‑term strategic vision.
Responsibilities- Lead major infrastructure projects end‑to‑end, from funding bids through to delivery
- Drive transport strategy development, including active travel, public transport, and road safety
- Oversee highway assets, including bridges, street lighting, and traffic signals
- Manage contracts and budgets, ensuring value for money and performance outcomes
- Build strong stakeholder partnerships, influencing across government and external agencies
- Proven leadership in highways, transport, or infrastructure services within a public sector setting
- Strong track record in delivering major capital programmes and contracts
- Experience creating and implementing transport strategies and policy
- Confidence managing budgets, teams, and complex stakeholder environments
- Passion for sustainability, innovation, and improving community outcomes
