I’m working with a Local Authority that’s looking for an Interim Operational Lead to support the SEN Assessment Team (SENAT), a county-wide service covering the 0–25 age range. Reporting into the Principal Service Lead, you’ll provide strategic and operational leadership across six integrated teams, ensuring statutory compliance and driving service improvement.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing complex casework, managing placement decisions, supporting budget efficiency, and contributing to the wider SEND and Inclusion Strategy.
About the Operational Lead role:
- Lead and coordinate six SENAT teams delivering statutory SEND services
- Oversee placement decisions, including Independent and Non-Maintained Schools
- Support strategic planning to reduce reliance on high-cost placements
- Advise on complex cases, complaints, and Local Government Ombudsman enquiries • Deputise for the Principal Service Lead and contribute to service development
- Collaborate with Finance and SEND leadership to manage High Needs Budget spend
- Provide operational oversight of EOTAS, AP, and tribunal processes
- Ensure compliance with DfE reporting and national SEND benchmarks
About you as an Operational Lead:
- Proven leadership experience in SEND or education services
- Strong understanding of statutory SEND frameworks and placement processes
- Skilled in strategic planning, resource management, and service improvement
- Confident in managing complex casework and engaging with senior stakeholders
- Experience overseeing multidisciplinary teams and supporting professional development
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
