Are you an experienced reward professional who thrives in complex, high‐risk environments and enjoys operating at the sharp end of organisational change? This Pay and Reward Specialist opportunity places you at the centre of critical pay, grading and job evaluation activity, reporting directly into the Director of HR & OD and acting as the council's most senior technical authority in this space.

You will be trusted to lead on the most sensitive and contentious cases, providing professional judgement, assurance and confidence at a time when scrutiny, governance and equal pay risk really matter. Your role as Pay and Reward Specialist:

  • Senior subject matter expertise across pay, grading and job evaluation, including NJC frameworks
  • Ownership of complex, high‐risk and escalated cases, ensuring defensible outcomes
  • Professional assurance of job evaluation schemes, consultant outputs and grading decisions
  • Expert advice on equal pay risk, pay transparency and legal compliance
  • Constructive engagement with Trade Unions and senior stakeholders to resolve issues and reduce escalation

Your previous experience as a Pay and Reward Specialist:

  • Expert‐level knowledge of public sector reward and job evaluation in a unionised setting
  • Proven track record leading and assuring contested or sensitive evaluation cases
  • Strong understanding of equal pay legislation, pay risk and governance
  • Confidence advising Directors and HR leaders under challenge and scrutiny
  • CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent senior reward expertise)

This assignment is ideal for a seasoned interim who can quickly establish credibility, set professional standards and bring clarity and rigour to complex reward decisions. You'll play a pivotal role in protecting the organisation from legal and reputational risk while strengthening confidence in pay and grading outcomes.
