Independent Reviewing Officer – Child in Need

3 month interim contract
£45 per hour umbrella (full time 37 hours per week)
East England – Hybrid working 3-4 days onsite per week

We are seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer to provide independent oversight and quality assurance for Child in Need cases. This is a critical role ensuring that care plans are robust, effective, and focused on the child’s best interests.

Working Arrangements

  • Flexibility to work from home 1–2 days per week, depending on meetings
  • All meetings are held face‑to‑face

Key Responsibilities

  • Chair Child in Need meetings for complex cases, involving children, families, social workers, and other professionals.
  • Quality assure care plans to ensure they meet the child’s needs and are outcome‑focused.
  • Monitor progress and prevent drift in cases.
  • Amplify the child’s voice in all decision‑making processes.
  • Challenge poor practice and elevate concerns where necessary.
  • Provide independent oversight separate from case management teams.
  • Offer guidance and support to social workers and families, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Qualified social worker with Social Work England registration and significant experience in children’s services.
  • Strong understanding of CIN processes and statutory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and chairing skills.
  • Ability to challenge and influence practice constructively.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service and 5 years references available upon successful appointment.
