This is a high-impact interim opportunity for a senior leader who thrives on challenge, influence and visible improvement. As Head of Children’s Social Care Quality Assurance, you will report directly into the Assistant Director and take strategic and operational ownership of quality across Children’s Social Care at a time where strong oversight, grip and pace really matter.

You will lead key statutory services, including IROs, LADOs, CP Chairs and Fostering Review Officers, and play a pivotal role in shaping a culture of learning, curiosity and continuous improvement. If you enjoy working at pace, bringing clarity to complexity and seeing the impact of your leadership quickly, this role will keep you energised.

Initial 3-month interim contract – immediate start £450–£500 per day Inside IR35 (via umbrella) Hybrid working. CVs are being reviewed immediately and interviews will be taking place week commencing 27 April.

Your Role as Head of Quality Assurance, Children’s Social Care:
  • Lead and oversee quality assurance activity across Children’s Social Care, ensuring strong audit, review and evaluation processes.
  • Manage and develop Conference and Review Services, including IROs, CP Chairs, LADOs and Fostering Review Officers.
  • Analyse practice and performance, identifying themes, risks and strengths and translating insight into tangible improvement.
  • Drive practice improvement, embedding learning from audits, reviews and thematic deep dives into frontline delivery.
  • Champion a learning culture, promoting reflective practice, professional challenge and evidence-based decision-making.
Your Previous Experience as Head of Children’s Social Care Quality Assurance:
  • Significant senior management experience within Children’s Social Care, leading complex, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong statutory and safeguarding knowledge, underpinned by extensive social work experience.
  • Highly developed analytical capability, with confidence interpreting data and identifying system-wide themes and trends.
  • Proven report writing expertise, producing clear, evaluative reports for senior leaders and external forums.
  • Demonstrable experience of overseeing Conference and Review Services with consistency, challenge and quality.
