Baltic Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with a market-leading manufacturing business, part of a highly successful global group, to assist with their search for an accomplished EHS Manager.
Overall Purpose
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing EHS programs, policies, and procedures at the Newton Aycliffe site. A passionate, energetic and engaging leader in EHS, that promotes safety as a core value and partners with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Will be responsible for promoting and driving continuous EHS improvements that will engage staff, promote a positive safety culture and will result in the reduction of injuries and assures regulatory compliance. Whilst the role is based at Newton Aycliffe, it will require additional UK travel to other sites and occasional overseas travel as required to fulfill the role. The role will provide direct support and assistance to other UK sites. There will be a direct team member based there. Therefore, annual target setting, regular appraisals and management of this individual will be required.
Key Duties
- Support Plant, Warehouse & Office Management
- Provide the necessary support, advice and management to deliver exceptional EHS standards.
- Establish annual safety objectives in line with business strategy to drive key safety metrics and KPI’s to support the company’s safety targets and report these metrics monthly.
- Serve as the technical resource for incident investigation and causal factor/root cause analysis; lead investigations and work with plant leadership to implement an action plan following root cause analysis.
- Implement systems, programmes and standards that will help enhance the existing positive safety culture.
- Assist in the development (and testing) of Business Continuity and Crisis Management Plans.
- Develop and update EHS policies and procedures whilst supporting cross-functional teams with policy implementation.
- Implement a behavioural safety programme as designed and required.
- Proactively identify EHS hazards and risks then develop plans to eliminate, minimize and control risks.
- Help maintain, support and implement ISO Standards where applicable.
- Sharing of, and implementation of, best practices.
- Facilitate and support the implementation of health and safety software systems.
EHS Training & Development
- Educate, train and provide mentoring to staff in all areas of EHS.
- Develop and maintain training materials to help manage key risks within the business.
EHS Audits
- Lead or participate in EHS audits (internally and externally) as required.
- Ensure timely closure of audit actions relating to UK sites.
Regulatory Support
- Monitor regulatory changes; recommend adjustments to programs/procedures accordingly.
- Partner with legal counsel to support any relevant claims (i.e. employers liability claims).
- Ensure legal (and best practice) compliance with any relevant EHS permits and standards.
Key Requirements
- Possess suitable EHS qualifications for example NEBOSH Diploma and IEMA Diploma.
- Ideally possess 5 years of experience in a similar Health & Safety, Environmental or combined role.
- Manufacturing or chemical experience.
- Experience with ISO management systems and regulatory compliance audits.
- Experience in environmental compliance.
- Excellent MS Office Suite skills, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
