Following significant investment in both our people and facilities, we now offer what is believed to be the most comprehensive single‑source range of tank products in the EU. We have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Design Engineer to join our Engineering team at Balmoral Tanks in our Glasgow office. This is a key role within the business, where you will be responsible for producing and validating designs for new and existing products, supporting continuous improvement, and providing technical expertise across multiple departments. Working closely with engineering, production, and sales teams, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high‑quality, innovative solutions that meet both customer requirements and industry standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Producing designs for new and modified products
- Carrying out structural analysis, including finite element analysis (FEA)
- Reviewing design briefs, specifications, and relevant standards
- Supporting product trials, testing, and validation activities
- Preparing design reports, test procedures, and technical documentation
- Checking and reviewing design work completed by others
- Providing technical support to production, sales, and site services teams
- Liaising with certification bodies to achieve product approvals
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and reduce costs
What We’re Looking For
- Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- 2–3 years’ engineering experience, including structural analysis
- Experience or exposure to finite element analysis (FEA)
- Knowledge of steel structures and Eurocodes (desirable)
- Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong organisational and analytical skills
- Experience with engineering software (training provided where required)
- AutoCAD, Inventor, Robot, Nastran or similar tools (desirable)
- Personal Attributes
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
