About The Role
We are seeking a highly organised and detail‑oriented Assistant Buyer to join our team at Balmoral Tanks. The Buyer will be responsible for procuring category requirements ethically and ensuring on‑time delivery to customers. Working closely with Purchasing you will support tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and supplier management activities. You will lead cost reduction and efficiency projects, establish and manage contracts with key suppliers, and maintain strong relationships with both suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe working environment in line with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of personal development and training.
- Assist in placing purchase orders and tracking deliveries to ensure timely arrival of goods.
- Communicate with suppliers to confirm order details, resolve discrepancies, and follow up on outstanding issues.
- Support Purchasing in sourcing new suppliers and obtaining quotes.
- Establish and build good working relationships with suppliers and to introduce and manage contracts with key suppliers.
- Adhere to the Approved Supplier procedure and maintain the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
- Liaise with internal departments such as logistics, finance and operational teams to ensure smooth procurement process.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, contracts and supplier information.
What We’re Looking For
- Works to a budget set by Finance/Sales team and highlights any discrepancies to Line Manager.
- Identify and record any cost or efficiency saving activities.
Experience
- Previous experience in an administrative or procurement role is desirable.
- Working knowledge of the construction industry or manufacturing would be desirable.
Qualifications
- GCSEs or equivalent – especially in Maths and English.
- A-Levels or equivalent vocational qualifications.
