Balltec designs, manufactures, and tests high integrity mechanical connectors for critical applications in the global renewable energy and oil and gas sectors. As a member company of Venterra Group, Balltec is working at the forefront of the global energy transition by supplying engineering solutions to the offshore wind and the emerging floating wind markets. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Workshop Supervisor to oversee our company's workshop activities. The Workshop Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient operations within the workshop. This is a key leadership role that requires strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and supporting the Production Director in managing and supervising the workshop team. This role will be entirely based at Balltec’s offices and workshop, with the potential for some UK travel to visit suppliers.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and lead the team: Oversee technicians, manage their timekeeping and productivity, and provide technical guidance. Formally mentor apprentices and junior members of the team.
- Manage daily operations: Schedule, prioritise, and delegate tasks to ensure the workshop runs smoothly and efficiently. Set up working areas and oversee all daily operations to ensure that they are being carried out safely.
- Ensure quality and safety: Monitor the quality of workmanship, enforce safety regulations, and conduct regular safety briefings and checks. Build and service specialist offshore tools and equipment.
- Support technical work: Conduct inspections and diagnostics on machinery and equipment. Help troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions.
- Coordinate with other departments: Liaise with management, engineering and projects to coordinate schedules, report progress, and ensure equipment availability.
- Contribute to development: Assist in the training and development of apprentices and junior technicians and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Prepare and maintain risk assessments for all workshop activities, ensuring that all staff adhere to established safety protocols and procedures.
- Work with typical workshop machinery and equipment, e.g. forklift trucks, cherry pickers etc. Writing lifting plans and ensuring they are followed.
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a workshop or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a workshop management role.
- Familiarity with Health and Safety regulations.
- Ability to multitask and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Confident team leader with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop staff.
- Knowledge of workshop equipment and machinery.
Desirable
- Strong Knowledge on electrical and hydraulic systems.
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- FLT B1 and B3 license.
- IPAF Certification.
- Lifting and Slinging Appointed Person qualification.
- Overhead Gantry Crane Certification.
Required skills
- Proven experience in a similar role and a strong technical understanding of the relevant equipment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a team.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in health and safety regulations for a workshop environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask effectively.
- Ability to use a variety of computer-based programs including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to use Autodesk would be an advantage.
- Strong user of Microsoft SharePoint will be desirable.
