Due to continued growth, we have an opportunity for a motivated and reliable Class 1 Driver with HIAB to join our Short Term Hire team. Balloo Hire Centres is a leading provider of tool, plant and welfare equipment, delivering both local expertise and the backing of the Briggs Equipment Group.
Purpose of the role
To provide a professional and efficient delivery and collection service of hire equipment to customers. Ensure all deliveries, collections, and yard activities are completed safely, accurately, and in line with company procedures.
Main accountabilities and responsibilities:
- Deliver and collect hire equipment daily using a crane lorry (HIAB)
- Ensure all equipment is accompanied by a valid Pre-Hire Inspection (PHI) before delivery
- Complete all delivery and collection paperwork accurately, including obtaining customer signatures
- Carry out visual inspections on returned equipment and record any damage for potential charges
- Load, unload, and secure equipment safely for transport
- Comply with driving regulations, including Working Time Directive and tachograph usage
- Complete daily vehicle walkaround checks and report any defects
- Carry out Pre-Hire Inspections on equipment as required
- Support yard duties during busy periods or staff absence
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle and ensure it is free from hazards
- Demonstrate safe operation of equipment to customers when required
- Operate all equipment safely during loading, unloading, and delivery
- Communicate effectively and professionally when interacting with customers
- Take responsibility for health and safety, ensuring compliance with company policies
- Wear correct PPE at all times (e.g. high-visibility vest, safety boots)
What will help you to excel in this role:
- Class C+E driving licence with Driver CPC
- HIAB (Lorry Loader) licence (desirable)
- Previous experience in a similar driving role
- Good understanding of health & safety practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- FLT or access equipment licences (desirable)
