An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Web Developer to join a thriving, fast-growing Bristol-based organisation at a pivotal stage in its digital evolution. The company is a leading regional provider within the education and sports sector, supporting thousands of customers and users across the South West. Following a decade of impressive growth, the business is now expanding nationally and investing heavily in the next phase of its technology platform.
This newly created position offers the chance to join early in the formation of a dedicated web development team. You’ll work alongside an experienced technical lead and play a key role in shaping the systems that underpin the business’s continued success.
What you’ll be doing:
- Developing and maintaining a large-scale, fully custom-built eCommerce and booking platform.
- Working with a modern JavaScript stack — React (frontend) and Node.js (backend).
- Writing clean, testable, maintainable code that drives real business impact.
- Collaborating with non-technical colleagues to translate ideas into practical digital solutions.
- Supporting the gradual modernisation of a complex, evolving codebase.
Essential skills:
- Strong experience with React.js and Node.js.
- Solid JavaScript fundamentals.
- Experience using Git for version control.
- Familiarity with integrating third-party APIs (e.g. Stripe, SagePay, Xero).
You’ll also gain exposure to:
- TypeScript, Vue.js, Remix.js
- SASS/CSS, Express.js
- DigitalOcean and broader cloud infrastructure
What we’re looking for:
- Ideally a year’s experience in a professional web development environment; however, a strong graduate will be considered.
- Understanding of modern application design patterns and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with non-technical teams.
- A proactive learner who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
Why this role?
You’ll be joining a company that values innovation, autonomy, and professional growth. With an evolving, feature-rich platform built over a decade, this is an opportunity to dive into a diverse codebase, enhance your skills, and make a visible impact as the business scales nationally. Knowledge of the childcare or sports coaching sector is welcome but not essential. What matters most is your technical ability, curiosity, and commitment to continuous improvement.
All successful applicants will undergo an enhanced DBS check as part of the company’s commitment to safeguarding children and young people. The organisation is an equal opportunities employer.
