We are currently looking to recruit multi-skilled engineers to complement our canning department at our site in Wakefield. In this role you will be responsible for utilising your electrical/mechanical skills to support the business in meeting its EHS, efficiency, production and cost targets.
Shift Pattern
The plant operates a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, a combination of day and night days, with 12-hour shifts. Every cycle includes 7 rotations of 4 on 4 off followed by 18 days off (fixed vacation days included). The schedule also covers 1 training day, 2 maintenance days, and 1 crew day.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain process equipment on the manufacturing line, including the printing machine, ensuring prints meet customer standards.
- Maximise production and minimise spoilage during the manufacturing process.
- Carry out safe repairs to equipment and set up checks that may follow maintenance work.
- Perform preventive and reactive maintenance as directed by the Engineering Department.
- Use ancillary equipment such as fork trucks (following RTITB training) and forklift driving when licensed.
- Execute line duties, e.g., managing scrap bins, warehouse duties such as stacking pallets, loading lorries, de-palletising and offloading incoming materials.
- Assist in maintaining the production flow throughout the manufacturing process.
- Risk-assess all proposed mechanical and electrical work to ensure it can be and is done safely.
- Perform fault finding and tuning of electrical/electronic equipment to ensure the safe and efficient running of the manufacturing process.
Qualifications
- Apprenticeship in engineering discipline or recognised engineering qualification to HNC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical disciplines.
- Essential: Engineering experience and fault diagnostic role gained within FMCG, Food or heavy engineering environment.
- Desired but not essential: Experience of general maintenance work, electrical or mechanical.
- Positive approach to problem solving, drive for continuous improvement and focus on self-development.
