Base salary – starting salary is £53,265.16 per annum, increasing to £56,225.09 per annum upon completion of the first phase of the skills matrix and a further increase to £59,184.93 per annum upon full completion of the skills matrix. Position overview: As the Workshop Engineer, you’re a key member of the Milton Keynes Team. Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, you will contribute to the success of Ball by performing tasks and providing services to support the plant's production goals and overall business plans.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining Plant services in a safe working condition i.e. compressors, boilers, water towers etc.
- The re-refurbishment, preparation and repair of plant spares & equipment i.e. coater rollers, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, pinchains, shafts, tooling etc.
- Assisting with Plant breakdowns i.e. pin chains, oven shafts, strappers etc. and line conversions i.e. palletiser conversion and size conversions.
- The safe use of tool room/workshop machinery i.e. lathes, grinders, manual millers etc.
- Assisting with the storing, inventory and issuing of tooling used in the manufacturing process.
- Engineering project work within the plant.
- Ensuring the housekeeping in the toolroom is to an acceptable level, and that equipment and machinery in the toolroom/workshop is safe and operable.
- Commit to working maintenance days.
Experience and skills required:
- Job-related experience for 2 years minimum in a high speed, high volume, continuous manufacturing environment.
- Apprenticeship in a Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering discipline (time served engineer).
- Experience of preventative and planned maintenance and the maintenance of workshop/production equipment.
- The ability to assist with breakdowns and line conversions.
- Have experience of working on the following: compressors, boilers, water tanks, rollers, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, pinchains, shafts, grinders, lathes, manual millers.
- Strong toolmaking skills.
- Sound communication skills, ability to clearly explain processes, fluency in written and spoken English.
- Can demonstrate the ability to work precisely with strong attention to detail.
- A team player with strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work alone under their own initiative.
