As the Capital Equipment & Process Standards Director, you are a leader on the Global Engineering team, reporting to the Vice President of Global Engineering. You will contribute to the success of Ball by establishing industry‑leading practices across Ball’s manufacturing facilities. In this role you will create and deploy standards for the operation of can‑making equipment, the parts and materials used in can‑making, as well as processes used to plan and execute capital projects. As the strategic leader of this group, you will drive the vision of leveraging scale across Ball’s global footprint in pursuit of operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Standards: managing global subject matter experts responsible for creating and deploying process documentation for all can‑making technology, direct materials (coatings), utility, power, civil construction and wastewater systems.
  • Establish standards for design, installation, startup and utilization of can lines.
  • Coordinate standard plant design with project values ranging from $200 million to $400 million.
  • Set standards for capital budgeting and control.
  • Lead governance and processes to ensure accurate cost estimation and budgetary control.
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual capital budget for general operations globally (>$150 million).
  • Track and report on this project portfolio throughout the year.
  • Collaborate and work closely with Capital Procurement and key suppliers of major capital equipment and services to review standard equipment specifications and enforce OEM change control.
  • Oversee the system for trials and workflows that assess operational readiness of process innovations; this requires close coordination with suppliers, operations and Ball Operational Excellence organization.
  • Create global specifications, technical standards and change management strategy for direct materials such as inside lacquers, inks and varnishes, executing the strategy from supply through application.
  • Technical licensee support: manage communications, information flows and financial reconciliation.
  • Direct the provision of engineering and technical support to the regional and joint venture engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with Operational Excellence teams to evaluate good and best practices and adopt and deploy them as global standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree (such as MBA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering leadership, particularly in establishing best practices for industrial processes.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience managing technology in a global manufacturing environment (preferably in beverage can manufacturing).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience generating business cases/ROI, performing technology selection and vendor management.
  • Working knowledge of purchasing, legal contracts, licenses, accounting, economics, depreciation, capitalization, accruals, ISO, auditing (internal and external), insurance, and contract negotiations.
