At Balfour Beatty, we are part of the delivery team for HS2, the UK’s flagship high‑speed rail programme, and a once‑in‑a‑generation project shaping the future of sustainable transport and construction innovation. Join Balfour Beatty’s Regional Buildings team and play a key commercial role on one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes. We are seeking several experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors to support the commercial delivery of five reinforced concrete buildings that will house critical Mechanical & Electrical MEP plant infrastructure along the HS2 route.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor within this portfolio, you’ll take ownership of key commercial functions—driving robust cost management, supporting procurement and subcontractor engagement, and ensuring the successful delivery of technically demanding assets. You’ll work as part of a collaborative, high‑performing team contributing to a landmark national project that will serve the UK for generations.
What you'll be doing
- Governance: Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s governance requirements and maximises LEAN/digital opportunities.
- Commercial Management and Administration: Orders information and systematically checks data; prepares activity and resource schedules, analyses tender documents; critically appraises, estimates and negotiates with 3rd parties; reviews complex contract programmes such as Time‑Location; assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes; monitors subcontract activities, measures and responds appropriately; prepares internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation, and reports to senior project staff.
- Customer/Change Management: Understanding of the Customer Contract and undertakes customer and stakeholder management; analyzes rates & prices, agreement of variations and compensation events as required; prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required; manages commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility.
- Procurement: Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes; prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy.

- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent knowledge
- MRCIS/MCInstCES/MCIOB or working towards them
- CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
