Balfour Beatty is proud to be delivering major works across Scotland, including the ASTi project, a significant and high‑profile infrastructure programme shaping the future of the region. We are now seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join our Planning team and play a key role in driving successful project outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled construction planner with a structures or built‑environment background to influence delivery on a major programme while working within a collaborative, forward‑thinking environment.
As Senior Planner, you will be responsible for creating, developing, and managing detailed construction programmes that support the ASTi project and other key works across the region. You will work closely with the Planning Lead, project teams, designers, and wider stakeholders to ensure successful planning, sequencing, and delivery. This role requires 2–3 days per week presence in Aberdeen, Westhill, or Peterhead, with flexibility around the remaining working time.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop logically sequenced tender and contract programmes, methodologies, and planning deliverables.
- Ensure programme content aligns fully with Balfour Beatty planning procedures.
- Create robust construction schedules using P6, Asta, or similar tools.
- Monitor and maintain contract programmes, ensuring accurate baselines and change control.
- Identify and communicate critical path activities, risks, and required recovery actions.
- Support resource planning across labour, equipment, and materials.
- Produce clear and insightful data, reports, KPIs, and planning analyses.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and engage effectively with external stakeholders.
- Provide planning expertise that strengthens decision‑making and programme certainty across the ASTi project.
Experience & Background
- Significant planning experience within the construction sector, ideally on structures or complex infrastructure.
- Demonstrable success planning projects from tender through completion.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, methodology, procurement and delivery strategies.
Skills & Knowledge
- Proficiency in P6, Asta, MS Project, and Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage data, interpret project information, and support project controls.
- Understanding of contract documents, specifications, and project management methodologies.
