Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Electrical Project Manager based at our Maxim Park office in Motherwell. The role is responsible for the safe, compliant delivery of electrical substation works, including AC, DC, protection, control and communications systems. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, manage contractors and site logistics, and liaise with clients throughout design, procurement, construction and commissioning, with a strong focus on health, safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the installation of 11kV substations, including switchboards and feeder circuits.
- Coordinate installation of 33/11kV and 11/0.42kV power and distribution transformers, including 1MVA distribution transformers.
- Manage installation of LVAC switchboards and associated power distribution equipment.
- Oversee installation of DC systems, including 110V DC systems, 48V DC systems, DC distribution boards and protection, battery banks (VRLA), chargers and associated cabling.
- Supervise installation of DC battery charger systems supporting protection, control and automation equipment.
- Manage installation of RTUs and marshalling kiosks, ensuring correct interfacing, segregation, and termination.
- Manage installation of associated MEP services in relation to substation works, including containment systems, small power, general & emergency lighting, fire alarms, structured cabling, H&CWS, HVAC etc.
- Plan, coordinate and control cabling installation covering routing, containment, glanding, termination and labelling.
- Ensure all works are installed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and standards.
- Lead and coordinate site installation teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Manage site activities to meet programme, quality and cost objectives.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements, including method statements and risk assessments.
- Liaise with design, commissioning and project management teams to resolve installation issues and manage technical queries.
- Support testing, commissioning and energisation activities, including defect resolution and punch list close‑out.
- Maintain accurate site records, installation reports and as‑built information.
Health, Safety & Environmental
- Responsible for the safety and welfare of the general public, staff and supply chain within the area of control under the strict observance of the safety policy and in conjunction with local HSE.
- Carry out periodic Safety & Environment Tours as required by the Project H & S Plan.
- Support Accident / Incident Investigations.
- Identify and implement improvement options and lead action / instigate as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in electrical installation management within substations or power infrastructure projects.
- Good working knowledge of HV, LV and DC systems, including protection and control equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and specifications.
- Proven leadership and coordination of multi-disciplinary site teams.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality and compliance.
- Effective communication with project stakeholders, contractors and commissioning teams.
- Understands method statements and can coach others in document production.
- Understands and can guide others in the principles of Accident / Incident Investigation.
- Good working knowledge of current H & S legislation.
- Proficient in the application of H&S management.
- Understands the Organisational Business Management Systems and processes.
- Clear understanding and experience of the requirements for handover and self‑certification of the works.
- Used to setting and successfully managing targets in line with budget.
- Able to produce a realistic programme and proactively track progress.
- Able to identify elements for cost recovery from others and guide team members in maintaining project records.
- Understand the relevant Contract terms and conditions for each project.
