About The Role

Are you a Managing Quantity Surveyor with extensive NEC3 experience, ready to take on a fresh challenge in a new sector? We’re on the lookout for driven commercial leaders to join us on a major power infrastructure programme in Scotland. Prior experience in the power sector isn’t essential — we’re far more interested in the transferable commercial and leadership skills you bring from sectors such as construction, housing, infrastructure, and beyond. At Balfour Beatty, we’ll provide you with comprehensive onboarding and sector‑specific training when you join, so you feel confident and equipped before taking on your new role. We welcome applications for both full‑time and part‑time working patterns, offering flexibility to suit your personal and professional commitments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of major projects or portfolios, from pre‑contract to final account.
  • Procuring and managing the supply chain, with a focus on cost control and value creation.
  • Engaging in risk management, value engineering, and contract negotiations.
  • Mentoring and developing a team of commercial professionals.
  • Managing client and stakeholder relationships to drive positive commercial outcomes.
  • Applying your knowledge of NEC contracts and the full gated business lifecycle (Gates 1–8).
  • Supporting and promoting professional development across the team.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree‑qualified, ideally with a RICS‑accredited degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field, or a relevant postgraduate conversion course.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3 forms of contract.
  • Confident communicator with strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proactive, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently or as part of a wider team.
  • Eligible for security clearance (if required).
  • A passion for developing others and leading teams effectively.
