Due to increased project demand across the East Coast, AS4 Tower Redesign, and Emmock to Hurlie schemes, Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution is seeking General Operatives (OHL) to join our growing team. This role plays a key part in supporting projects that build and maintain high‑voltage overhead transmission lines across the UK. You will assist with the optimum running of Project Stores and associated yards, ensuring materials, plant, tools and equipment are available to support safe and efficient site operations.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assist the HGV driver with all duties
  • Assist the Stores Person with all duties
  • Coordinate plant & stock ensuring all administration procedures are followed and ensuring accurate stock management
  • Liaise with operational staff to ensure materials required for the site are arranged and accessible in line with operational needs
  • Unload & load delivery vehicles
  • Check deliveries against advice notes and for quality, quantities & damage
  • Hire, accept and off‑hire plant and equipment
  • Manage the calibration of tools & equipment (including lifting)
  • Secure the yard ensuring access is only permitted to authorised personnel
  • Ensure the yard(s) and store are always tidy
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by your actions or omissions whilst at work
  • Cooperate with BB in all matters pertaining to Health and Safety to enable the Company to carry out and enhance its legal duties and requirements
  • Do not recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare
  • Bring to the attention of your manager any perceived shortcomings in health and safety arrangements or situations that you consider to be serious or imminent danger to yourself or others
  • Do not undertake any safety‑critical work activity or activity for which a specific competence is required unless you have received the necessary training/instruction and/or assessment and hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work
  • Do not instruct others to undertake such work if they do not hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work
