Join our Power Commercial team as a Commercial Manager and you'll deliver complex work that really matters to our business and become involved in some of the biggest infrastructure projects in the industry. Purpose Of The Role

Responsible for the financial management of a major, complex project(s) from inception, tendering, negotiating and agreeing contracts and then commercially delivering projects often worth many tens of millions of pounds. Integral part of the project senior leadership team where you hold key responsibilities associated with the commercial and financial success of each project. Experienced individuals who have risen through the ranks of the industry and whose role is broad and includes anything from risk management to procurement, financial reporting and managing the supply chain. Proven skills in commercial awareness, client liaison, project management and team leadership. You will also have an extensive understanding of the construction industry, flexibility and a talent for negotiation. Track record of managing and developing a commercial team and be yourself a Chartered Member or Fellow of the RICS, ICES or CIOB, and a mentor/role model to other commercial staff on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide commercial input to Value Engineering reviews for different forms of construction.
  • Support the review of tenders, including estimates, cost data and contract reviews.
  • Manage the preparation of Target Cost for a Project, including the associated risks.
  • Prepare the monthly CVR and associated commercial reports.
  • Report and explain the commercial progress to senior divisional staff.
  • Establish client supply chain requirements and advise on alternative forms of contract & procurement arrangements.
  • Apply legislation and liaise with legal experts.
  • Prepare estimates & tender submissions including the interpretation of specifications & preambles.
  • Co‑ordinate buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management & procurement techniques, estimating & surveying functions.
  • Manage disallowed cost.
  • Give advice on training & development including professional involvement with schools & universities to promote Balfour Beatty as a potential employer and support sponsored students.

Who we’re looking for

  • Lead on collating costs and maximising value on a large project or portfolio of projects.
  • Lead on and embed a mindset within the team of financial and commercial control within a project(s).
  • Demonstrate strategic change management.
  • Possess in‑depth knowledge and experience of procuring and managing supply chain.
  • Maintain a Personal Development Plan to ensure continuous personal and professional development.
  • Already in possession of or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Proactively develop, mentor and coach immediate and wider team members to ensure development of talent and succession within the team.
  • Demonstrate working to deadlines including effective delegation, working efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Excellent communication skills with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Keen interest and experience in infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrate resilience and determination to succeed (achievement focus).
  • Proactively manage opportunities, risks and threats.
  • MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent level of education or experience.
