About The Role

Purpose: To have overall accountability for successful project delivery including initiation, planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and handover/closeout. A change agent that provides management, leadership and inspires a multi‑disciplinary team to achieve a common goal. To determine the most appropriate means of satisfying customer/project requirements, objectives and constraints: time, cost, quality, scope, risk and benefits.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Hold periodic project reviews (PRM) and update the Digital Briefcase in accordance with GBL.
  • Prepare both internal and external reports and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to scope, information and configuration management plans.
  • Ensure reports provide relevant information that enables cost‑effective decisions in line with overall strategy.
  • Ensure scope and package assignment supports coordinated team working.
  • Lead a relentless focus on Zero Harm and keep up to date with changes in legislation.
  • Be responsible for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and supply chain.
  • Carry out periodic safety & environmental tours, promote observation and safety initiatives.
  • Produce plans for the team to achieve goals and aspirations.
  • Develop high‑performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent and support internal training through mentoring and performance management.
  • Coach and provide guidance to the Project Manager.
  • Lead risk/opportunity reviews, present the Risk Register and recommend/implement changes.
  • Log and elevate issues that cannot be resolved at the delegated level of authority.
  • Take a strategic view of subcontract package allocation and ensure contractual arrangements are in place.
  • Ensure procurement plans align with overall project plans so that materials, resources and supply chain can be delivered on schedule.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken with a view toward handover and certification.
  • Accountable for KPIs in line with project objectives and monitor performance.
  • Ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate action on findings.
  • Lead working groups and collaborate with OLT on focused improvement areas.
  • Develop, implement, review and periodically update resource‑loaded schedules.
  • Ensure the team adopts productivity and project control techniques.
  • Ensure production of operational milestones reflects the master schedule and customer expectations.
  • Ensure expenditure aligns with the budget and resources are utilised efficiently to achieve cost control.
  • Identify elements for cost recovery from others.
  • Incorporate and balance operational and commercial constraints into decision making.
  • Lead effective reporting routines, including escalation as required.
  • Advocate consistency and reliability of digital data to support successful project delivery.
  • Be aware of Digital Group Minimum Standards and operate with an appropriate level of digital tools.
  • Seek coaching so that the team has the correct level of training.

  • Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery.
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work.
  • Good understanding of standard forms of contracts.
  • Proficient in commercial and project management communications.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with all levels of the organisation.
  • Effective team‑management skills that empower, influence and inspire others to build effective teams.
  • Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required.
  • Commercially astute.
  • Able to undertake work in high‑pressure situations.
  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics.
  • A record of a solutions‑based approach to problem‑solving.
  • Ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team.

Desirable Qualities / Experience:

  • Experience working on a variety of project types.
  • Member of a professional management body (e.g., APM).
  • Proficient in O365.
  • Holds a current driving licence.
  • Attends and contributes to industry events.

The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

  • Holds a formal qualification (BSc/MSc) in management or construction or equivalent experience.
  • Holds either the APM PFQ, PMQ or PPQ.
  • Holds CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent.
