About the role

As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Construction Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to Senior Project Manager, this role is lead for site delivery of structural steelwork package for large stick‑built structures including short to medium term planning/scheduling with subcontractor and BB planning team, coordination with BB lifting team, coordination with Client site delivery team and ensuring exemplary quality and safety standards.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Weekly progress meetings with erection subcontractors where all elements of construction are monitored (change/programme and progress/H&S, quality etc.);
  • Liaising with BB and Client quality teams to plan and coordinate site inspections and handovers;
  • Coordinating of Client EasyPlant system to ensure quality documentation collated throughout build to ensure seamless handover at completion;
  • Coordinating with wider BB construction teams for crane positions/deliveries/storage and shakedown areas, logistics etc.;
  • Coordinating with other construction/project managers to ensure adjacent works coordinated;
  • Working with internal commercial team to manage Client/subcontractor change and ensure instructions are administered in timely process;
  • Working with external design team for any changes/modifications which arise during erection;
  • Daily appraisal of work areas on site including weekly H&S inspections;
  • Liaising with BB and Client H&S teams to ensure a collaborative approach;
  • Ability to work with planning team to coordinate subcontractor programmes and integrate into single build programme and constant monitoring/updating of this as required;
  • Ensuring necessary permits in place for works either directly or more likely through direct reports.

Who we're looking for

The successful candidate will have the following experience/qualifications:

  • Previous experience of managing large value construction packages ideally civils or structural;
  • Professionally qualified person either via BSc or NVQ route;
  • SMSTS (preferable) or SSSTS;
  • CSCS;
  • Ability to use ASTA Powerproject desirable.
