About the role

Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives? Balfour Beatty have created iconic buildings and infrastructure all over the world over the past 115 years redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark with every project. As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Lifting Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

What you’ll be doing

  • To plan and manage safe and effective lifting operations in line with legislative, BB and project requirements.
  • The AP role exists to lead safe operations and provide clear detail and guidance for all members of the lifting and wider construction teams.
  • Develop lift plans in accordance with BB lifting policy, LOLER and any specific project lifting requirements.
  • Determine the category of lifting operations, establish lifting equipment and accessories required and produce a SSOW (lift plan) for the lifting operations ensuring lifts are planned in accordance with given legislation.
  • Ensure that a system for reporting defects is in place.
  • Select appropriate lifting accessories, including their method of attachment to the load, and any protection used to prevent damage.
  • Coordinate onsite lifts, lifting teams and overseeing briefings and powra’s (duty AP’s only).

Who we’re looking for

  • Appointed Person qualified and certified (CPCS Blue card A61) with practical/theoretical knowledge of local requirements and legislation.
  • Understanding of relevant information including LOLER, PUWER, BS7121 and WAHR.
  • 5 years’ minimum comprehensive experience in lifting operations and 2 years of planning lifting operations.
  • Results Driven: Demonstrates a passion and excitement for his/her work. Tackles problems head-on and works to resolve them without delay. Working to project schedules and deadlines and planning lifting operations to meet such targets.
  • Focus on Excellence: Willing to go the extra mile to exceed expectations. Continually searches for ways to add value and take performance to the next level.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Puts aside personal agendas to work for the benefit of colleagues, management and the client. Proactively builds knowledge through sharing knowledge, ideas and expertise with others.
  • Customer Focus: Supervises safely, in compliance with SSOW and current legislation to ensure all lifting operations are completed safely in line with project and BB expectations.
  • Operational Excellence: Drives to work with all construction teams to meet BB, legislative and project requirements for safe lifting operations.
