About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a P&C Design Engineer to join their Power T&D team in Newcastle or Leeds. The role focuses on engineering control and protection designs for electrical substation projects.
Key requirements include extensive knowledge of electrical engineering applications, power system technologies, and protection systems, as well as experience in preparing and interpreting technical drawings and documentation. The candidate should possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Detailed roles and responsibilities are outlined in the attached appendix.
What you\’ll be doing
General Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and training of the Design Team based on skills and experience.
Planning Responsibilities:
- Coordinate contract requirements with project stakeholders upon contract award.
- Establish design content and resources to meet project timelines.
- Monitor and report on project progress, highlighting potential issues.
Procurement Responsibilities:
- Specify and quantify equipment/materials in coordination with other departments.
- Prepare instructions for materials and tools, and specify testing and maintenance requirements.
Design Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and customer requirements.
- Review contract documentation and establish scope of work.
- Participate in design review meetings and liaise with design personnel.
- Organize preparation of installation and commissioning packages.
- Review \’As Installed\’ drawings and documentation for accuracy.
Who we\’re looking for
Education:
- HNC in Electrical Engineering or higher.
Experience:
- Experience liaising with customers and suppliers.
- Design and specification of electrical power systems.
- Performing calculations to validate design integrity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
