Balfour Beatty has an amazing opportunity for a Package Manager to join our Major Projects team to work at our iconic Old Oak Common development in London. HS2's new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UK's best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.
Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide high speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.
As a Package Manager you will be reporting to the Senior Package Manager and be leading the management of various subcontractor packages related to the offline works of the project, such as critical utility diversions and highways works. You will also be responsible for managing interfaces with other work packages, such as the Bridges team, Site Logistics etc.
You will manage daily interface activities, coordinate construction sequencing strategies, and analyse scope to identify gaps. Your role will also involve preparing procurement documentation, collaborating with designers, and driving value engineering initiatives to enhance design efficiency and buildability.
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage site teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders while ensuring HSEQ compliance
- Plan and deliver works including methodology, programme, resources, procurement, and documentation
- Supervise, train, and mentor site teams to maximise performance and productivity
- Control contracts, budgets, programmes, and reporting, addressing variances as required
- Maintain accurate site records and liaise with client, design, commercial, and operations teams
Who we’re looking for:
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of highways and utilities construction techniques, sequencing, and best practice
- Understanding of construction contracts and their implementation
- Ability to work independently using sound engineering judgement and practical experience
- Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt style to different audiences
- Computer literate (MS Office, document control systems, AutoCAD), CSCS card holder with H&S and Environmental training
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Experience in constructability reviews and providing construction input to design development
- Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) experience
- Background in delivering projects within complex, integrated project environments
