Balfour Beatty, a global leader in infrastructure delivery, is seeking a passionate and experienced Site Manager – Substations to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team. This is your chance to take a pivotal role in delivering critical energy infrastructure at AN Suidhe Substation, nestled in the stunning Argyll landscape between Inveraray and Lochgilphead. What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the safe and efficient delivery of on-site construction works, ensuring alignment with project objectives and Zero Harm principles.
  • Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries, etc.) and contribute to internal/external reporting.
  • Ensure technical drawings and specifications are understood and implemented correctly on site.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, including daily coordination, RAMS review and progress tracking.
  • Participate in project reviews and support updates to digital project systems (e.g. Digital Briefcase).
  • Conduct and promote Safety & Environmental Tours, and support incident investigations as required.
  • Ensure workforce competency and uphold high HSEQ standards across all site activities.
  • Coordinate resource allocation, site logistics and programme delivery to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Monitor project KPIs, support audits and contribute to continuous improvement activities.

  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work.
  • Experience in managing risks and change processes.
  • Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts.
  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications.
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation.
  • Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at all levels across the business and be able to negotiate and influence.
  • Able to undertake work in high pressure situations with a flexible attitude.
  • A record of a solutions‑based approach to problem solving.
  • Communicate and check understanding of daily briefings.
  • Two‑way communication e.g. brief out weekly safety pack.
  • Discuss ideas and plans competently.
  • Communicate new concepts and ideas to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Effective personal and social skills.
  • Awareness and promotion of the benefits of diversity and inclusion.
  • Identify and drive personal development.

Desired qualities/experience:

  • Experience of working on a variety of project types.
  • Proficient on O365.
  • Holds a current driving license.

The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

  • Holds CSCS and SSSTS or Equivalent.
