About the role
Provide deliverables and a service that satisfies safety and quality requirements. Produce calculations, drawings and the associated service. Direct personnel as required. Lead the production of investigations, reports and specifications. Ensure activity is in compliance with relevant technical, professional and group standards. Ensure project change is fully managed, implemented and recorded. Undertake work using formal processes and procedures. Manage and record time and provide time estimates for projects/packages. Define detailed service requirements and liaise with Clients Engineering Representatives.
What you’ll be doing
- Undertake Permanent Way design on projects, including liaising with client, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams to ensure that the permanent way is fully integrated into the overall scheme.
- Produce technical documentation including calculations, reports and specifications in accordance with standards and procedures.
- Produce designer’s risk assessments, eliminating hazards wherever possible through the design process.
- Oversee technical aspects of track design work undertaken by the design team where required.
- Check/review the work of other team members.
- Deliver design packages to budget, quality and programme.
- Maintain good relationships with Client’s key representative.
Who we’re looking for
- Knowledge of engineering drawing practices.
- Development of accurate track design, S&C and Plain Line.
- Ability to manage own workload and lead small teams.
- Knowledge and skills in aspects of track and railway civil engineering surveying, specification, construction/renewal within the UK.
- Working knowledge of safety legislation and regulations, including Health and Safety at Work Act and CDM 2015.
- Experience with Microstation, MX Rail, Bentley Railtrack, Clearoute/2.
- International/multiple client experience.
Desirable
- Experienced in the detailed facets of engineering for the particular discipline.
- Has delivered solutions to engineering problems in the design and builds environment.
- Has experience in leading medium sized teams.
- Experienced at operating to procedures and design office practices.
- Detailed design of trackform designs (e.g. drainage, under track crossings, formation design).
- Track renewals / maintenance experience.
