Balfour Beatty is seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join our Connect Plus Services (CPS) team. The role can be based at South Mimms, Dartford, or Leatherhead, with regular travel across the M25 network. A company car or allowance is provided. CPS is a joint venture with Balfour Beatty, AtkinsRéalis, and Egis, responsible for operating and maintaining the M25, Europe's busiest motorway section, overseeing over £100m of annual highway infrastructure investment, along with maintenance activities.
The purpose of this role is to assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring processes to manage health, safety, and wellbeing risks within the project. The role supports the organization’s goal to be a safe and responsible company for our people, supply chain partners, and the communities we serve.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing day-to-day management, guidance, support, and mentoring to HSW advisors.
- Being a visible champion for HSW across the project, engaging with operatives and managers.
- Overseeing the implementation of organizational standards related to HSW at a local level, providing feedback to HSW managers on areas for improvement or potential conflicts with business requirements.
- Monitoring the delivery of the communication strategy to keep HSW on the operational agenda and reporting on communication effectiveness.
- Supporting delivery of HSW training based on project needs.
- Supporting or undertaking targeted inspections of HSW management systems and supply chain audits, tracking, and supporting actions to close out issues.
- Managing own diary and stakeholder communications to plan and conduct inspections and HSW conversations with site and depot teams.
- Preparing and communicating reports and presentations on inspection findings, tracking, and supporting actions.
- Representing the HSW function positively during meetings and conference calls.
- Reviewing work activities against safety systems, taking appropriate actions, and providing documented advice where necessary.
- Leading and supporting incident investigations, ensuring effective handling and closure of actions.
Who we’re looking for
Essential:
- Membership of a relevant professional body (IOSH).
- Professional qualification in health and safety (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent).
- A current CSCS Card.
- Clean, full driving license.
- Experience managing a team of HSW Advisors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital platforms at an intermediate level.
Desirable:
- Prior site-based construction experience.
- Knowledge of working in a Highways construction or maintenance environment.
- Experience working on a Joint Venture.
