Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world\’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives? Balfour Beatty have created iconic buildings and infrastructure over 115 years, redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark. Balfour Beatty has been selected by bp to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, a key driver behind Teesside becoming the UK\’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Underground Networks Section Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at the site in Redcar and Cleveland. Role purpose: To support the overall implementation of the engineering strategy and framework for the project.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Control: Carry out complex setting out; provision of primary setting out control and recognition of the optimum location for installation; coach subordinates in the use of setting out techniques.
  • Quality: Produce Activity Control Plans; actively use the Specification as a reference document; maintain a comprehensive filing system of quality records; identify, raise and action Non Conformance Reports; identify and raise Technical Queries with possible solutions.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental: Produce Method Statements and Risk Assessments; prepare and raise Temporary Works Briefs; carry out short-term visitors induction; complete Accident Book and associated reports as required.
  • Productivity: Produce a weekly programme and measure progress against KPIs; communicate weekly programme and targets to the workforce.
  • Commercial: Collate weekly measure information and monitor wastage against budget allowances/KPIs; carry out labour and plant reconciliation; identify items of additional work and raise necessary notifications; work to specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers.

The following experience/qualifications are required:

  • Engineering Control: Able to carry out complex setting out; creation of As-builts and coordination of complex underground infrastructure.
  • Quality: Understands and has experience of producing ACP; understanding of construction tolerances; awareness of Specification and other Contract documents.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental: Understands Permit System and actively raises permits to work; able to identify potential hazards and be proactive in implementing actions and controls.
  • Productivity: Understands and can use the information provided in the 13 week Stage Programme; updating internal BB systems such as AIMS with up-to-date work programmes and job cards (training provided).
  • Commercial: Good understanding of key contract documentation; understands specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Previous Experience: Experience in underground utilities, drainage and earthworks.
