Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a new Senior Environmental Sustainability Manager to join our Power Transmission and Distribution business working on the Skye Reinforcement Project. You’ll work closely with internal and external stakeholders, champion sustainability opportunities, and help ensure project delivery aligns with client expectations, regulatory requirements and Balfour Beatty’s strategic environmental goals. This is a key leadership role, managing a team of Environmental Sustainability professionals and collaborating with a range of specialist consultants, ecological teams and environmental authorities.
What you'll be doing:
- Provide visible environmental and sustainability leadership across the project.
- Manage and support a team of ES Advisors, Coordinators and graduates.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, consents, permits and environmental standards.
- Lead environmental inspections, audits and incident management.
- Oversee environmental documentation, reporting and client submissions.
- Identify sustainability opportunities and drive action plans.
- Engage with regulators, stakeholders and specialist consultants.
- Support work‑winning activities, including planning, permitting and client interviews.
- Prepare case studies, best practice examples and award submissions.
- Interpret environmental policy and advise project teams on requirements.
Who we're looking for:
- Professional membership (IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM) or equivalent experience.
- Strong environmental management background.
- Excellent knowledge of legislation, ecology, mitigation and licensing.
- Confident communicator able to influence at all levels.
- Strong organisational, reporting and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and lead a small team effectively.
- Flexibility to travel.
