Ready to shape the future of rail? Balfour Beatty Rail Plant is on the lookout for a talented and driven Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to take ownership of costs, contracts and supply chain management across high‑profile building and civil engineering projects. In this role, you’ll play a key part in maximising value for money, safeguarding quality, and supporting the growth of our commercial capability. Whether guiding less experienced team members or collaborating with senior colleagues, you’ll be central to delivering excellence on every project.
Ideally chartered — or well on the way to RICS, ICES or CIOB accreditation — you’ll bring strong commercial insight, a commitment to best practice, and a passion for continuous professional development. Key Responsibilities- Apply and follow all Company governance requirements (BMS & GMCEs).
- Use Company ERP and digital systems effectively.
- Accurately measure, record and value work independently.
- Prepare cost reconciliations and collate cost/value data.
- Interpret specifications, drawings and works information.
- Build estimates from first principles and produce Bills of Quantities/Schedules of Rates.
- Manage subcontractor measurement and agreements.
- Review weekly/monthly programmes and plan commercial activities accordingly.
- Understand the Customer Contract and manage stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrate awareness of delay and disruption programmes.
- Gather and document information to define procurement needs.
- Manage subcontract enquiries, including assessment and adjudication.
- Follow all required procurement steps and documentation processes.
- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent knowledge.
- CSCS Card (Academically Qualified/Professional Qualified Person).
- MRCIS/MCInstCES/MCIOB with CPD maintained or working towards them.
