About The Role
Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Senior Production Engineer to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17 km of complex highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme‑wide, industry‑leading approach to carbon reduction.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of, and full compliance with, the LTC “Beyond Zero Harm” programme and the four Balfour Beatty Golden Rules.
- Champion the Beyond Zero Harm initiative by promoting and supporting the wellbeing of colleagues and the wider community.
- Develop three‑week look‑ahead programmes that are aligned with the overall stage programme.
- Monitor progress, record, and report any variances to the weekly programme.
- Review permanent and temporary design drawings prior to commencement of works, resolving any queries with designers in advance of programme preparation.
- Provide advice, guidance, and coaching to engineers on specifications, standards, and setting out.
- Obtain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for self‑delivered works from the Balfour Beatty Highways library or other projects, refining them in accordance with LTC specifications and standards.
- Review and assess subcontractor ITPs as required.
- Take into account community and stakeholder requirements when preparing look‑ahead programmes, consulting with the Community and Communications team to ensure full understanding and agreement of these needs.
- Volunteer for and participate in community engagement events, encouraging site engineers to participate as well.
- Ensure all look‑ahead programmes, Works Package Plans, ITPs, and related documentation are prepared in accordance with the Environmental Management Plan and the project’s carbon commitments.
- Monitor compliance on site and report any breaches to the Package Manager and Environmental team.
- Collaborate with the logistics team and supervisors to ensure all necessary materials and plant are available on time and meet approved specifications.
- Work alongside the Package Manager to prepare and obtain approval for material and plant requisitions.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably on large‑scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Sound knowledge of construction regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work and suggest improvements to systems.
- Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity.
- Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights.
- Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility.
- Holds a current driving licence and CSCS Card.
- SSSTS or SMSTS qualified.
- Must be a strong team player, with developed communication skills.
- Good progression towards professional accreditation (e.g., ICE, IHT).
