About the Role
Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) is looking for a CAD Technician to join our growing team in Scotland. This is a site‑based role on Skye.
Role Purpose
Work with the project team, designers and technicians through the design phase to deliver safe and suitable scope of works in line with project objectives. Produce drawing output for both initial and detail design phases and support the design of substation civil works, including public road improvements, bellmouths, drainage and earthworks.
Key Accountabilities
- Produce drawings based upon the civil designs required on PT&D projects.
- Ensure the timely and quality delivery of drawings to a high technical level, which are compliant with the required client and national technical standards (BS/Eurocodes/ENA).
Key Responsibilities
- Drive a Safety by Design approach at all times.
- Work closely with other elements of the design team to ensure effective collaboration on multi‑disciplinary projects.
- Ensure that procedures and manuals provided for compliance with the appropriate QA standards are applied.
- Produce drawings and material schedules with particular emphasis on substation designs to the required standard first time and within time scales set.
- Assist in the checking of documents produced by other members of the team.
- Actively develop working methods to improve the quality and quantity of the output.
- Liaise with designers and operations personnel to determine the most suitable and practical interpretation of design requirements.
- Comply with project and function‑specific standards and practices.
- Assist in estimating timescales for specific tasks.
- Assist in the production of reports and inquiry documentation.
- Assist in the training of junior staff and direct contract/agency personnel and technicians with their duties.
- Produce accurate packages with a minimum of re‑work.
- Produce accurate and complete records.
Skills Required
- Proven experience in drawing civil engineering works.
- AutoCAD experience.
- IT literate (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel).
- Good understanding of BIM principals (PAS 1192 and ISO 16950).
- Desire to operate in a technician role and develop skills to support designers.
Skills Desired
- Experience with microdrainage software.
- Experience with Civils 3D software.
