At Balfour Beatty, we shape the infrastructure that underpins daily life across the UK. Within our Asset & Technology Solutions (BBATS) business, we are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to join our Fleet & Support Services team. This is a high‑profile role where you will play a pivotal part in driving commercial and financial success across a £40–45m business area. You will mainly be based at the Balfour Beatty offices in Derby (Hybrid – WFH) with travel to other UK sites based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the commercial management of a diverse portfolio of assets and services – including modular accommodation, temporary site services, digital & survey equipment hire, and mobilisation hub services.
- Span the full commercial lifecycle, from business case development and contract negotiation through to delivery, cash management, and asset disposal.
- Drive commercial strategy and financial performance across Fleet & Support Services.
- Develop, present and own robust business cases and investment models.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Lead risk and opportunity management, supply chain engagement, and commercial reporting.
- Support senior management reviews, prepare business unit packs and present at SLT level.
- Lead, mentor and develop a commercial team.
Who we’re looking for
- NEC 4 contract experience preferred.
- Asset management experience desirable.
- Strong background in asset management, professional services, subcontracting or plant hire.
- Proven track record of owning P&L, cash flow and balance sheets.
- Ability to undertake full commercial contract reviews and negotiate terms (CPA, NEC, JCT).
- Experience in asset financing models (capital, operating lease, hire purchase).
- Excellent leadership, negotiation and client liaison skills – collaborative and ethical approach.
- Commercial awareness within the construction or infrastructure sector.
