Our team shape projects that connect communities and impact daily life for millions. Our commitment to sustainability looks even further – generations further. Join our Major Projects team as a Senior Estimator initially working within Highways.
Role Purpose
To support the Managing Estimator to develop estimates from 1st Principles associated across multiple stages of the pricing process including post tender stage pricing. Be a senior member of the team developing the price, mentoring, and supporting junior members of the estimating team. Stakeholder management to produce the estimate e.g., planning, procurement, sustainability etc. Where appropriate working closely with other Balfour Beatty or JV partners, the delivery teams to ensure a unified approach and pricing submission.
What you’ll be doing
- Undertake estimates in accordance with the companies’ policies and procedures;
- Review customer’s drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment;
- Oversee and/or interrogate design options and ‘value’ solutions, and if appropriate, identify the attractiveness of a project based on sound estimating principles;
- Mentor and support more junior members of the team;
- Record assumptions and identify risks and opportunities including supporting developing the risk evaluation from a pricing/budgetary point of view;
- Liaise with members of the project team, other BB business units & supply chain to develop and understand methodologies and principles proposed.
Who we’re looking for
- Previous experience in estimating of complex multi-faceted Highways and Civil Engineering projects;
- Proficient in the use of Excel and similar software;
- A valid CSCS card;
- Good working knowledge of pricing and quantification methods;
- Experience of leading a team;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners under time pressure.
