We are currently seeking a Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor, with Mechanical and Electrical experience to join our Regional Buildings team, supporting the delivery of the N1/N2 project — a series of five reinforced concrete buildings that will house critical Mechanical & Electrical (MEP) plant infrastructure along the route.
These highly engineered structures are essential to HS2’s operational systems and represent a unique blend of heavy civil engineering and complex building construction. The project spans from Birmingham to Leamington Spa, with the initial scope of work based on the Bromford Tunnel Intermediate Shaft, Birmingham. A company car is provided with this role. Upon completion, you will have the opportunity to progress onto other exciting projects across our regional buildings portfolio.
What you’ll be doing
- Implement Business Unit Zero Harm strategy through visible leadership to drive the delivery of the Zero Harm Action Plan.
- Provide project teams with expert HS&W technical advice, guidance and support.
- Collaboratively engage with both internal & external customers and the supply chain to promote zero harm delivery.
- In conjunction with operational management complete a local and bespoke risk-based Service Level Agreement with each project which is kept under quarterly review to provide assurance that the project is compliant with HS&W requirements.
- Undertake regular site inspections as per project risk matrix and produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record HS&W inspections.
- Undertake regular checks on Health and Safety Risk Management highlighting risks and opportunities.
- Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and company requirements.
- Support work winning teams with quality HS&W responses for bids, proposals and PQQs for future projects.
Who we’re looking for
- Candidates with Mechanical and Electrical experience.
- Relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ or Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification). May consider candidates with a certificate/qualification currently working towards one of these qualifications with relevant on-site experience and to have or be working toward Chartered Membership of IOSH.
- Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
- Ability to influence and promote a positive HS&E culture by engaging and conversing at all levels.
- Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets.
- Competence in incident investigation.
- Ability to prepare formal written reports on HS&W topics.
- Broad experience of complex construction and civils projects (or experience from an equivalent sector).
