Job Opportunity: Assistant Package Manager (Section Engineer)
Balfour Beatty is seeking an Assistant Package Manager (Section Engineer) to join our Major Projects team at the iconic Old Oak Common development in London. This project involves the construction of HS2\’s new station, valued at approximately £1 billion, which will become the UK\’s premier rail hub. Our joint venture, Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA, will oversee the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station, featuring six underground platforms and additional platforms on the adjacent line, with high-speed rail connections to major destinations and airports.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Scope & Planning: Conduct scope reviews, identify gaps, assess constructability, and analyze construction sequences and programme risks.
- Coordination & Risk Management: Manage interface clashes, oversee subcontractor deliverables, and facilitate communication between teams.
- Quality & Compliance: Monitor subcontractor performance, ensure quality assurance, and manage certification and non-conformance issues.
- Procurement & Documentation: Prepare scope documents, Safe Work Instructions, and manage documentation approvals.
- Site Management: Supervise subcontractor activities, track workforce and plant usage, and maintain progress reports.
- Innovation & Value Engineering: Implement innovative solutions and value engineering proposals.
- Safety & Environment: Promote a safe and sustainable work environment across all activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- BSc, MSc, or BEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- CSCS certification
- Experience in civil engineering on large infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of NEC3 contracts and site activity management
- Ability to monitor subcontractor performance and report effectively; SMSTS, PTS, or professional institution membership (ICE)
- Experience with earthworks, drainage, precast/cast-in RC, and temporary works
- Familiarity with utilities such as Network Rail, TfL, Thames Water
- Knowledge of document control systems (BC, eB, CEMAR)
