We are seeking an experienced Construction Director to join our UKCS Scotland business to help deliver part of the Netherton Hub project. This role will be part of a joint venture with our Power Transmission and Distribution team working on the Longside 132 and 400KvA Sub Station project. Reporting to the Head of Operations and Project Director, this role will be based at Westhill Aberdeen and onsite at Netherton Hub, Peterhead.
What you'll be doing
Within this role you will be providing strategic operational management, strong leadership and control of a multi-disciplinary team comprising engineering and supervisory resources at all levels and facilitating strong links with other teams within and external to the project. You will embody the Balfour Beatty values, ensure relentless focus on Zero Harm and support the delivery of the CSUK's Sustainability activities.
You will also be responsible for:
- Health Safety & Environmental
- Creates a culture of openness and trust in reporting of Health and Safety matters
- Carries out weekly Safety and Environmental Tours as required by the Project Construction Phase Plan
- Leads / Reviews Accident / Incident Investigations. Reviews and appraises findings and leads / directs the appropriate action arising (HFACS and Four Page Reports). Implements culture for change when required
- Monitors effectiveness of the H & S Management System and drives change when required
- Engineering Control
- Ensures that sufficient resources are allocated to the 132 and 400KvA Sub stations projects and that each sub contractor has an appropriate level of ability. Establishes opportunities for mentoring to facilitate this with our employees
- Identifies longer term strategic training to support individual development as required
- Quality
- Sets targets and KPI’s in line with Project objectives and monitors performance
- Ensures site audits are undertaken and takes appropriate action on the findings
- Appraises improvement options and leads / instigates actions as appropriate
- Manages the implementation of systems and processes for Right First Time approach
- Productivity
- Drives Lean initiatives to improve project efficiency
- Carry out constructive analysis of fully resourced programme
- Ensures production of operational target programmes to reflect overall construction programme
- Chairs weekly progress meetings to review strategic performance on site
- Reports progress and reasons for difference within Project Review meetings
- Commercial
- Sets and aligns targets and KPI’s in line with budget forecast
- Has ownership of weekly cost meetings and identification of improvement areas and allocation of appropriate actions to team members and supports the Project Director at these meetings
- Supports the preparation of a cost plan and manages cost v value
- Manages the procurement of subcontractors and advises on commercial aspects / preferred attendances and operational risks to the scheme and mitigation options
- Produces the risk schedule for section, reviews and updates

You will be a strong communicator and are capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating the outcomes having led multi-disciplinary teams before. Your results driven mindset will ensure operational excellence is maintained throughout the project, ensuring dedication to achieving outcomes for our client.
