Balfour Beatty is leading the delivery of SSEN Transmission's high‐profile Netherton Hub, a flagship ASTI net‐zero infrastructure project in Aberdeenshire that will reshape how renewable power moves across the UK. As the Common Interface Contractor, the team is responsible for major civil engineering and building works, including construction of the Spittal–Peterhead HVDC converter station and the development of new 400kV and 132kV substations, to enable clean energy generated in the north of Scotland to reach homes and businesses nationwide. This multi‐billion‐pound programme creates hundreds of skilled jobs, apprenticeships, and long‐term career opportunities for candidates who want to help shape the future of the energy sector.

Primarily our Assistant Quantity Surveyor will assist the QS / SQS / Commercial Leads on a project or business unit to maximise margins, reduce costs, and improve timely cash collection. You will assist in all processes required to safely deliver our works while maintaining compliance with company procedures and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Support the commercial team to ensure successful setup and running of projects in compliance with company standards and the GMCEs and Gated Business Lifecycle.
  • Advise the Project Manager and QS / Senior QS early of potential overspends, noncompliance, and other problem areas.
  • Assist with setting up projects on the company accounting system with a suitable Work Breakdown Structure in line with OPSTAT guidelines.
  • Assist with accepting budget and tender data from successful tenders into the Company accounting/Reporting System.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly project reports from the Company accounting/Reporting System.
  • Support the preparation of monthly Applications and Invoicing to ensure timely submission of accurate documents to maximise the company's financial position.
  • Notify clients early of any increased project value or delay to completion; meet with client representatives as required.
  • Assist with the collection of cash and pursuit of certificates from clients in a timely manner to maximise cash flow.
  • Input Applications and invoices onto the company accounts system, including payment certificates.
  • Maintain accurate weekly cash flow forecasts and assist in raising PO requisitions, GRN, and off‐hiring of plant equipment as needed to ensure accurate cost information.
  • Input Sub‐Contractor Certificates on the company accounts system and ensure accuracy of information recorded.
  • Assist with administering Sub‐Contracts to reflect company benefit.
  • Support project correspondence and identify potential time barring; keep the Project Team aware of contentious correspondence.
  • Identify and record change control opportunities and input change control items to the accounting system where applicable.
  • Provide substantiation for project changes and/or costs and discuss required levels of substantiation with the client as needed to close out change control items.
  • Ensure timely administration of the Company accounting/Reporting system and manage, coach, motivate, and educate staff placed under your charge.
