Careers Lead
Location: Birmingham
Pay: £100 – £180
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
About Us
We’re a supportive and inclusive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Birmingham, working with young people who’ve been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools. Our students have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and we’re here to help them re‑engage with learning, build confidence, and prepare for a brighter future. We’re looking for a caring and committed Careers Lead to join our team and help guide our students towards positive next steps after school.
What You’ll Be Doing
As our Careers Lead, you’ll help students explore their options for life after school—whether that’s college, training, or work. You’ll create and run a careers programme that builds employability skills and opens up opportunities. You’ll work closely with staff, families, and external organisations to make sure every student gets the support they need to move forward with confidence.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver a careers programme that suits the needs of our students.
- Offer one-to-one and small group support to help students prepare for their next steps.
- Build strong links with local employers, colleges, and training providers.
- Organise work experience, careers events, and vocational activities.
- Work alongside teaching and pastoral staff to support students’ personal and career development.
- Help students build resilience, self-belief, and ambition.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or in alternative education.
- Great communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships.
- A calm, patient, and understanding approach.
- Confidence in working with external partners to create real opportunities for students.
Why Work With Us?
- Join a passionate team making a real difference every day.
- Access ongoing training and development, including SEMH‑focused support.
- Enjoy a rewarding role where you’ll see the impact of your work in students’ lives.
