Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role within an Alternative Provision or specialist education setting?
Balfor Recruitment is currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant in Thrapston, Northamptonshire, to support secondary-aged pupils within a specialist education environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with experience working with young people who may have experienced barriers to learning, disengagement from mainstream education, SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, Autism and ADHD.
To be considered for this Teaching Assistant position, you must have a minimum of 6 months’ experience working within a school or education setting in the UK.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital classroom and pastoral support to secondary-aged pupils, helping them to engage positively with education and achieve their individual potential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils.
- Supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism, ADHD and challenging behaviour.
- Assisting teachers with the delivery of engaging and differentiated learning activities.
- Supporting pupils who may have experienced difficulties engaging within mainstream education.
- Using positive behaviour management strategies to promote engagement and progress.
- Building strong, positive and professional relationships with pupils.
- Supporting pupils with their social, emotional and behavioural development.
- Encouraging confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning.
- Helping to maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
- Working closely with teachers and other education professionals to meet individual pupil needs.
- Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people at all times.
Teaching Assistant Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 6 months’ experience working within a school or education setting in the UK – essential.
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Mentor or Education Support Worker.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, challenging behaviour, Autism and/or ADHD would be highly desirable.
- Experience working with secondary-aged pupils is advantageous.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Confidence in supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and additional needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
- A proactive approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
