M.J. Bale is Australia’s foremost gentlemen’s clothier, manufacturing garments of integrity for men of character. We have been built on the pillars of authenticity, integrity, provenance and character and embed this into everything we do from our people through to the products we create, that our customers love.

M.J. Bale is opening its first UK store on Jermyn Street, and we’re looking for enthusiastic Sales Associates to help introduce the brand to London. Founded in Australia in 2009, M.J. Bale creates garments of integrity built on genuine provenance—from Tasmanian wool growers and Italian weavers to Japanese tailors. Since 2015, we have worked with Kingston, a carbon-positive farm in Tasmania, to create single-source suiting, returning a share of every sale to support the land’s biodiversity. In 2024, M.J. Bale became a certified B Corp. This commitment has helped make us the Official Tailor to the Australian Test cricket team, the Wallabies and the Socceroos, and it underpins more than 80 stores across Australia. Our Jermyn Street opening marks M.J. Bale’s first move beyond Australia and the first opportunity to bring our approach to tailoring, service and sustainability to London.

As a Sales Associate, you’ll be part of the founding Jermyn Street team and play an important role in shaping our customers’ first experience of M.J. Bale in the UK. Working closely with the Store Manager and wider team, you’ll deliver personal and considered service, develop your product and tailoring knowledge, and help create a store that customers want to return to.

Your day will include:

  • Welcoming customers and delivering a personal, considered shopping experience
  • Understanding each customer’s needs and helping them find the right fit, style and product
  • Supporting customers with suiting, wardrobe updates and occasion dressing
  • Building genuine client relationships that encourage repeat business
  • Working towards individual sales targets and contributing to the store’s overall performance
  • Developing strong knowledge of M.J. Bale’s products, fabrics, provenance and approach to tailoring
  • Maintaining a polished, well-presented and customer-ready shop floor
  • Replenishing stock and assisting with deliveries, transfers and stock management
  • Supporting visual merchandising and maintaining high presentation standards
  • Assisting with the day-to-day operations of a newly established store
  • Working collaboratively and getting involved wherever support is needed

Who we’re looking for:

  • You understand that excellent service begins with listening.
  • You enjoy getting to know customers, take pride in presentation and bring a positive, proactive approach to your work.
  • You will bring previous experience in retail, hospitality or another customer-focused environment.
  • An interest in premium menswear, tailoring, styling or luxury retail.
  • Confidence engaging with customers and building rapport.
  • A genuine desire to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
  • Commercial awareness and the motivation to work towards sales targets.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high presentation standards.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support the wider team.
  • Reliability, initiative and a hands-on attitude.
  • Flexibility to work across weekdays, weekends and peak trading periods.
  • The right to work in the United Kingdom.

Experience in premium menswear or tailoring would be highly regarded, but it is not essential. We’re equally interested in people with the right attitude, strong customer instincts and a willingness to learn.

This is a rare opportunity to join the founding team of an Australian tailoring house on Jermyn Street and help establish the brand in a new market. You won’t simply be joining a store already in motion—you’ll help shape its culture, customer experience and reputation from the beginning. You’ll receive:

  • A competitive salary
  • Individual and team sales incentives
  • Clothing benefits
  • Product and tailoring training
  • Opportunities to develop and grow as M.J. Bale establishes itself in the UK
  • The chance to work for a certified B Corp that holds how it does business to the same standard as what it sells

If you’re passionate about customers, personal style and being part of something from the beginning, we’d love to hear from you. M.J. Bale is committed to creating an inclusive workplace and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds.

We should have examples on hand of how we've handled difficult situations or gone above and beyond to meet a customer's needs. These anecdotes will bring your application to life!

Familiarity with Point of Sale Systems

Many retail roles require us to work with Point of Sale (POS) systems, so it's a good idea to brush up on any relevant software you’ve used before.
