ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Troubleshoot process, equipment, and quality issues.
- Investigate, determine root cause, create a corrective action plan and correct the issue.
- Report to management.
- Accurately assess when to call in additional support from maintenance and management.
- Keep Management/Supervision informed of changing conditions.
- Ability to read and understand process instructions, work instruction, SOP, policies, flow charts, HECβs, and supporting documentation required to complete daily tasks and process runs.
- Cross trained to operate all processes, process lines and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Understand the product specs and operating standards by customer product and implement the necessary equipment for processing.
- Responsible for self-involvement, team involvement and execution of tasks relative to achieving annual departmental goals.
- Maintain operations in such a manner as to continuously produce quality products in a safe and efficient manner.
- Continually gain in depth knowledge of facility equipment.
- Responsible for checking all forms and record keeping material.
- Responsible for operator accuracy of paperwork, labeling, tool checklists, all forms, & record keeping material.
- Train/supervise production workers in all aspects of the spray drying and cleanup process.
- Assure that manufacturing, training, cleaning, safety, quality, and other procedures are being strictly adhered to.
- Work with maintenance personnel to address equipment needs and coordinate those needs with production scheduling.
- Understand and comply with safety regulations.
- Provide suggestions for continual improvement, applications of lean processing, and aid in following through and implementation.
- Responsible for achieving established performance measures for productivity, quality, and safety levels as set for the production rooms and the whole department; meet or exceed daily production goals related to safety, quality, and quantity produced.
- Supervise the operators, blenders and baggers on your shift, and effectively communicate production turnover.
- Maintain, promote and assist others in OSHA, Kosher, GMP, ISO, LOTO, and QS plant requirements.
- Discipline employees when policies are not adhered to (attendance, punctuality, performance, etc.).
- Lead others in maintaining good housekeeping and an orderly work area.
- Must maintain department safety rules compliance and be a positive safety role model.
- Enforce food safety plan while producing product.
- Drive, initiate, and support continuous improvement and elimination of waste and variation in processes using established improvement processes.
- Responsible for the timely, efficient, thorough, and effective cleaning and sanitation of their area of responsibility, including but not limited to production or packaging equipment and the surrounding areas or rooms, support areas, and other areas as may be required.
- Provide daily work assignments and production priorities to the operators.
- Lead, motivate, and direct employees to achieve clear performance objectives.
- Must understand the company vision and set goals that will drive the team in that direction.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent, preferred and a minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with supervisory experience.
- Able to operate a forklift.
- Must be responsible; maintain a positive work attitude, safety minded, quality minded, management supportive, and company oriented.
- Good communication skills, high math and reading skills, high mechanical ability.
- Basic knowledge of spray drying and granulation (additional training may be mandated).
- Willing to obtain a 5th class power engineer certificate within the first year of employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position may require walking/standing for long periods; reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting.
- Frequent relocating of 100-200 lb. fibre barrels and 55 lb. bags required.
- Exposure to powder and heavy equipment in a loud manufacturing atmosphere.
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to powder mineral products, cleaning chemicals, restricted movement, dirty environment, hazardous materials, lifting and carrying heavy objects.
- In accordance with the OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29CFR 1910.134) Balchem employees (Production, Quality, R&D, and Maintenance) are required to successfully complete annual fit testing (clean shaven req.) and medical clearance (respirator medical certification).
- When required to wear a respirator, wearers must wear it as they fit tested (clean shaven).
