Sector: Growing SME Practice | Advisory-led Accounting
About Our Client
Balance Hiring is partnering with a high-growth SME accountancy and advisory practice known for the commercial impact of its work. This firm punches well above its weight acting as a preferred advisor to a listed PLC-backed financial advisory group and supporting some of the largest and most complex clients in the market. Despite being a smaller practice, the quality of clients, exposure to transactions, and advisory depth rival much larger firms. This is an opportunity to join a business where judgement, insight, and commercial thinking are genuinely valued.
The Opportunity
This role is ideal for a strong Senior Accountant who has:
- Experience owning complex client relationships, and
- Either led merger accounts or is ready to step up into that responsibility.
The position is progressive by design; the firm is open to shaping the role around the right person, encouraging you to bring your expertise to the table and play a key role in decision-making, advisory work, and future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as lead point of contact for a portfolio of high-quality clients
- Preparing monthly merger accounts and supporting merger accounting activity
- Producing statutory accounts for SMEs and complex entities
- Delivering tax compliance and advisory work, including oversight of ~200 tax returns
- Preparing and reviewing cashflow forecasts, P&L analysis, and financial models
- Supporting clients with funding applications and finance readiness
- Providing commercial insight and advisory support to business owners and senior stakeholders
- Contributing to decision-making, process improvement, and best practice within the firm
What We’re Looking For
- Strong background in practice accounting
- Experience managing complex accounts (mergers highly desirable, but not essential if ready to step up)
- Confident advising clients and acting as a trusted commercial partner
- Comfortable balancing hands-on delivery with strategic thinking
- Naturally collaborative, proactive, and commercially minded
Why Join?
- £60,000 - £70,000 salary for the right level of experience
- Exposure to high calibre clients usually seen in much larger firms
- Strong advisory focus, this is not a compliance only role
- Genuine opportunity to shape and grow the role
- A culture that values commerciality, autonomy, and quality over volume
- Clear progression for someone looking to step into a senior advisory position
